When it comes to Better Call Saul season 5, the quiet calm before the storm is here. We knew that filming was going to begin this month in the greater Albuquerque area, and now, we’ve got a few more details surrounding what is coming.

According to a report from NM Film News, filming for the AMC series will be kicking off at around the middle of this month, and there are some background actors and stand-ins currently being cast! The aforementioned site has a little more info on that, if you’re close to New Mexico and have an interest in trying to take part.
Even if you’ve got no real interest in being a background actor, the top story at this moment is clearly just hearing “mid-April” in the first place. Isn’t that a nice beacon of news and a reminder that some awesome stuff is finally coming up with this show? One of the trends, for better and for worse, that we’ve seen with Better Call Saul over time is that you often have to be extremely patient to get around to new episodes. Seasons have premiered more than a year after the previous one for the entirety of the show’s run — the hiatus from season 3 to 4 was a little longer than most, and it still remains to be seen how long the one will be from season 4 to 5. We know that there are a lot of people out there hoping that the new season will be able to launch in October, and we certainly hope that this is the case. The darkest-timeline scenario is having to wait until 2020, but we don’t know how much AMC would love that idea, either, given that it would mean that the show would end up missing out a little bit on the 2020 Golden Globes.
On the surface, not too much has changed when it comes to Better Call Saul season 5 — the episode count appears to be similar and structurally, we think AMC will keep the show on Monday nights. The one thing that we imagine will be grossly different is the style and feel. Now that Jimmy McGill has decided that he’s not anywhere near as interested in going by his real name anymore, we’re staring at a sea change that could alter his relationship with Kim and the direction of his career. Sure, this is where we could also go on and on about how we want more Gene, but that’s also bringing us a little bit more info fanfiction territory, as well.
