Is Barrett Foa, Renee Felice Smith leaving NCIS: Los Angeles?

Tonight, NCIS: Los Angeles decided to tell a story about “Searching” was about characters looking for something — including a possible future somewhere else.

While the future of Nell and Eric was not the primary storyline within this episode, throughout the hour they faced a huge decision to make when it comes to their future — Eric had a fantastic job offer in San Francisco and as it turns out, there is an emotional reason for the two to go there. Nell’s mother has been diagnosed with a form of heart disease and with that, it does make a certain degree of sense for the two characters to contemplate heading up there or a more permanent basis … if the job turns out to be right.

So are Barrett Foa and Renee Felice leaving NCIS: Los Angeles? Going into this episode, we certainly hadn’t heard anything about that. This storyline suggested that something could be in the works, but what we’ve also learned about this show over time is that hearing someone contemplate their future doesn’t mean that they are taking a bow and saying goodbye. Look at Deeks and the bar last season, which led to a lot of conversation about their own future.

Still, at the end of the episode, there were questions aplenty about the future. As it turns out, this job will offer Beale a substantial raise, so much so that would allow Nell to not even need a job immediately. It doesn’t seem like a firm decision has been made, but there actually could be a reason for concern.

As for the rest of this episode, tonight featured Callen’s adventures in babysitting with Jake, Sam teaming up with Goldberg’s Lance Hamilton again, and Deeks and Kensi facing a major decision of their own when it came to the bar. Obviously, they wanted to make that dream come true but the problem is this: The place is a money pit! As it turns out, Densi were able to fix most of their power problems at the bar courtesy of Jake. Seriously. That’s really all it seemed to take in this case to realize that they can do the bar, but they just needed to be okay with hiring people who were actually good at the things they needed. They can’t carry the weight of everything on their shoulders.

After Sam and Lance wrapped up their mission tonight, Sam made it clear to him that eventually, he could opt to join him on the road doing some of his isolated missions. However, it’s not time for him yet. (Therefore, we can’t be too worried about LL Cool J’s future — at least for now.)

CarterMatt Verdict

The problem with certain NCIS: Los Angeles episodes is that if you make us worried that a certain cast member or two is going to leave, it’s harder to focus on anything else. We liked getting Goldberg back for a storyline in which Lance and Sam worked together to stop a much larger gang operation. Meanwhile, is anyone else digging Fatima as a character like we are? She’s still new to the team, but she is still someone we could envision being a part of season 11 in a larger capacity.
