When Calls the Heart return date decided on behind the scenes

When Calls the Heart

Let’s start this article by getting some of the bad news out of the way: There is no public return date just yet for When Calls the HeartHowever, there’s at least some essence of good news to report today in that the producers behind the scenes seem to have figured out when they are able to  get it back on the air.

In a new post on Twitter (which you can check out below), show executive producer Brian Bird confirmed that he knows when the series will return to Hallmark Channel, but we’re all going to be stuck waiting until there is some sort of official announcement out there. Obviously, it’s not coming back on the air tonight since there’s virtually zero time to promote it.

We certainly feel for the people within the show’s creative team, given that they’ve found themselves wedged against a wall with a nearly-impossible task of trying to find the optimal solution to the Lori Loughlin problem that everyone is trying to deal with. We don’t think for a second that the actress will ever be back on the show, but we wouldn’t be shocked if it’s decided upon that the rest of Abigail Stanton’s episodes air largely unchanged after a period of time in which the news of Loughlin’s arrest blows over. That spares the show a huge financial commitment trying to re-edit or re-shoot most of her scenes, and we think that the majority of viewers would understand that episodes were filmed far in advance. If they’re really that worried about viewers thinking that airing Loughlin’s old episodes = supporting them, they can just put a notice at the start of the episode that they were filmed in advance.

Fingers crossed that When Calls the Heart returns over the next few weeks — for the sake of the show’s ratings, it benefits it to get back on the air sooner rather than later. We’ve already discussed how Hallmark is not canceling the show so one way or another, they’re going to find a way to bring Hope Valley back. If the same crew of people watch it, there’s no cause for concern and the future is bright. The only reason to worry is if all of these headlines lead to a ratings nosedive … but it’s hard to conjure up a reason why that would happen. While Abigail was an enormous part of the show, she also was far from the only part of the show. There are many different reasons why When Calls the Heart is the enormous success that it is.

Hearties, keep your eyes peeled for more news — more than likely, updates will surface soon on the horizon and your favorite show will be back. We never expected a series like this to have to deal with this sort of deluge of controversy, but that’s the way the TV business works sometimes — it’s wild and unpredictable. There’s always a difference between the faces you see on-screen and then the real lives of many of these performers and crew members.
