NCIS season 16 episode 20 spoilers: The ‘Hail & Farewell’ story

“Hail & Farewell” – NCIS investigates the murder of a Marine Major believed to have been killed in the 9/11 attack on the Pentagon after human remains are discovered at a construction site. A personal history with the victim drives Gibbs to solve her crime, on NCIS, Tuesday, April 16 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.
So what does the title mean? Well, Hail & Farewell is a traditional military event, one that celebrates new arrivals to an organization or also commemorates a departure. It goes along with the theme of the story and also the idea of parting — a solemn, emotional event that many agents are unfortunately very much familiar with. This is something that creates a lasting memory for others, in addition to the person at the center of them.
What about some other, long-term stories?
We’ve mentioned for a while now that we are on Ziva watch, as we are certainly curious to see how the show plans on picking up where the story from “She” left off with the character (apparently) still alive. In the video below (if you dig it, subscribe to CarterMatt on YouTube and check out our playlist), we discuss a little bit further a Ziva clue that could be coming your way during the upcoming April 9 episode “Perennial.” Unfortunately, there’s no real evidence that this is going to continue here … at least on the surface. It may be a secret that the show is saving for later, but we envision the current Ziva plot at the moment more as a serious of breadcrumbs. You’re going to get a few of them sprinkled throughout some upcoming episodes, and maybe that will lead to the bread in the finale.
Is it possible that something big does come before the finale? Absolutely, but we know how the NCIS world tends to operate. They love to deliver those big, firecracker stories at the end of the season, ones that get people talking moving into a season 17. Maybe that’s Ziva … but there’s no confirmation yet. We just think that this is going to be underneath the surface for quite some time moving forward; the longer it lasts, the more questions that a lot of people could start to have about where this storyline is going.
