Hawaii Five-0 season 9 episode 21 spoilers: A murder & a cold-case revelation

Hawaii Five-0 season 9 episode 21 could be one of the best head-scratchers of the season … and we mean that in a good way. Watching this show is somewhat like visiting a shaved-ice stand where you’ve got a number of different flavors at your disposal — think of action as cherry, drama as blueberry, or comedy as lime. Sometimes, this show brings you all of them and it’s like when you ask the person running the stand to give you all of them in a single snow-cone.

So where does mystery fall in here? Maybe mystery is grape — something you really enjoy but don’t get all the time, since there’s a certain mood that is perfect for it. Yet, sometimes a great mystery lingers with you and this episode could be that. A lot of times, Five-0 does give you all the clues right away and the episode’s more about just stopping the designated bad guy. This may not be fully the case here, at least based on the season 9 episode 21 synopsis we’ve got below:

“He kama na ka pueo” – Five-0 investigates the murder of a man whose body may hold the key to a 20-year-old case involving a kidnapped girl whose father never stopped looking for her, on HAWAII FIVE-0, Friday, April 12 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

After reading that, do you find yourself having some questions? Well if so, you’re not alone. How are these things connected? Well, we figure that a part of the mystery of this episode is going to be finding an interesting way in which for this to happen. It’s about watching some of these characters try to connect some dots and figure out precisely the right way to solve this case. While there’s a great mystery component here, of course we’re expecting still some trademark humor and a lot of the other great stuff we’ve come to expect from Hawaii Five-0 over the years. Now that we’re almost a full decade into this run, we like to think that we’ve got a certain understanding of what the producers are looking to bring to the table.

On an unrelated note, there’s something else to be excited about from a pure episode-count perspective on the other side of this: There are still four more episodes to go! That’s 25 for the season, which follows the tradition of the past few. That’s one of the reasons why there are such an array of flavors with this show; because the writers know that they have so many opportunities to tell stories per season, that gives them the flexibility and bravery to try out a wide variety of different things.

Now, let’s just hope that this particular flavor of shaved ice is tasty, and one that we’d come back for down the road.
