NCIS star Mark Harmon potentially lining up new movie role
Luckily, it seems as though Harmon is figuring that out. According to a report from Deadline, the actor and his Wings Productions imprint, alongside the Tannenbaum Company, have optioned the rights to Honor Thy Father, a true-crime story that was published in Texas Monthly all the way back in June 1998. The story is about murder within Texas and the complicated, pride-based world of football, and Angelo Pizzo (Rudy, Hossiers) is on board to write the script. It’s hard to imagine someone more qualified being in this role!
The aforementioned source notes that this project is a possible feature vehicle for Harmon, provided his interest is there and also the scheduling works with what he is doing with NCIS. Harmon has stated repeatedly that he has no interest in leaving the CBS series, which he’s been a part of for the better part of the past couple of decades and one that seems primed to get a season 17 renewal over the coming weeks.
With this being said, here is your customary reminder that Harmon getting a movie role does not mean he is leaving NCIS. We almost feel like we’ve got to bold this since in a few days, some publication is going to scare people into thinking that he is — it’s the rinse-and-repeat, gotta-make-money prerogative for a number of major websites out there. If the schedule is right, it’s easy for Mark to do a feature role over a couple of months and then return to the show — it’s just not something that he’s done a lot over the years. Harmon tends to value his privacy and his time off from the show, and has not been credited for a feature film role in ten years. He’s obviously done so much over his long career that he may not have a pressing need to unless the story really suits his fancy. This may just be an example of one that does.
While you wait for more news on this…
