Homeland season 8 spoilers: Hannibal’s Hugh Dancy snags recurring role
According to a new report from TVLine, Claire Danes’ real-life husband Hugh Dancy is going to be recurring on the upcoming final season of the Showtime drama. As for the role, think along the lines of John Zebel, described as a “savvy Washington consultant who joins the White House as a new foreign policy advisor to the President — and a formidable opponent to Saul Berenson.”
For Homeland as a whole, this news is thoroughly exciting. Dancy was excellent playing Will Graham on the aforementioned NBC show, and also was fantastic over on The Path — two shows arguably gone far before their time. We also have to imagine that it’s nice for him, Danes, and their entire family to actually be working on the same production for a change. One of the major challenges with Homeland over the years has been its nomadic nature, where for many years Claire and much of the cast were shipped off to various parts of the world, including Europe and also the Middle East. While it ended up producing some extraordinary television, it’s a hard habit to keep up, being away from your friends and family for such a substantial period of time. This could help to make it a little bit easier.
The final season of Homeland was recently delayed, which means that Alex Gansa and the entire creative team have a little bit more time in order to craft the perfect story. They obviously recognize the show’s place in history — it really was a bridge for the network between the era that they had with Dexter as their biggest hit and then also the one that they’re in today. It’s a show that really captured what it’s like being in America at this particular point in a way very few others did. It was bold, daring, and it took big chances. We like to think that it succeeded in most — even if some seasons were uneven.
Regardless of what happens within the context of the story, we’re eager to push forward and see what’s coming … also, the enormous Hannibal fan within us, of course, likes to think that this sort of added publicity will help in that eventual quest for a season 4. We’re patient … unbelievably patient, obviously, given that we’re still trying to be optimistic so many years later.
In going back to Homeland now for a minute, let’s hope that there is some sort of larger premiere-date announcement coming for the new season via Showtime a little bit later this year. With that will, hopefully, come some footage and a few more teases as to how the saga of one Carrie Mathison is going to come to a close.
