Shadowhunters season 3 episode 16 preview: ‘Stay With Me’

Shadowhunters season 3 episode 16 carries with it the title of “Stay With Me,” which certainly brings up a lot of different emotions. That title invocates Sam Smith, whose song is a plea of longing like no other. (Thanks to The Masked Singer, we also think of the Monster now.) This episode is one that every Malec fan should want to see, stemming entirely from what we saw at the conclusion of the episode tonight. Magnus’ fate is in question and you have to hope for answers before we turn to ash — basically, what Heidi became at the end of tonight’s episode.

Beyond just what’s happening with Magnus (which is obviously of paramount importance given what happened to him) this upcoming episode also will provide an opportunity to sink our teeth into more mythology when it comes to Clary and Jace. We’ll get a chance to better see if they can eliminate that dastardly rune, the same one that is causing her to become more and more attached to Jonathan … otherwise known as one of the worst faces imagination. She’s finding it hard to eradicate him because of its presence and to make matters worse, it actually seems like she’s becoming more like him! We do think that this firmly qualifies for a fate worse than death since no one wants to lose their sense of self to someone else.

Clary and Jace come up with a risky plan to get rid of her twinning rune, which may bring an old enemy back into the fray. Meanwhile, Alec is worried about Magnus.

If it feels like everything is hitting the fan at the moment when it comes to this show, there’s a pretty simple reason for that: It is! Things are not just hitting the fan, they’re crashing into it like a freight train and leaving the other side in assorted bits and pieces. We’re in the midst of a lot of chaos across the board and to think, we haven’t even mentioned what’s going on as of yet when it comes to Maia. Is she going to be able to maintain the trust of those around her? We think insofar as her being one of the good guys, sure — but will she kill again if she comes across another foe she’s got a personal vendetta with? It’s certainly something to think about.

Can we get some good Simon/Izzy content in the next episode? After some quality stuff over the past few weeks, we now find ourselves hurting and eagerly wanting more of some of these two in action.
