TV Madness 2019: Outlander, Suits kick off round 3!
As we kick off round 3, let’s congratulate all of the shows that have made it so far! There have been some genuinely-worthy contenders, who have endured some hard-fought battles to make here. The winners we’re seeing are coming from all walks of TV life and that’s exciting — in round 2 alone, we had a medical drama, a sitcom, a high-concept thriller, multiple streaming series, and also shows that are fighting for their lives on the air. Today, we’ve got two longtime shows in Outlander as well as Suits that have plenty of popularity, let alone some of the most passionate and loyal viewers out there. Only one, however, can make the final four!
If you’ve taken part in CarterMatt’s TV Madness before, you likely know how this works — we spotlight the two competitors and then, on the other side of it, give you a poll for you to commence your voting! The poll is located at the bottom of this article.
How voting works – Vote however often you would like! (Technical instructions for multiple voting can be found right above the poll.) We will keep this poll open until Monday, March 25 at 1:00 p.m. Eastern time, which is when the final four will officially kick off! As for the competition, it will be someone from within the group of Hawaii Five-0, Blindspot, Chicago PD, and Shadowhunters — four worthy foes who are all going to be looking to make a name for themselves and claim some tournament glory.
You can see the full bracket (including start dates for each individual round) in the graphic at the top of this article.
The competitors
Outlander (#1 seed) – The Starz drama took on a big test in round 2 courtesy of Wynonna Earp, who fought hard and passionately to stick around for another round! It did post nearly 10,000 votes, but Outlander more than tripled it by the end of the final tally. There is a reason why this show is a #1 seed — it has some of the most-loyal fans in the business who adore its beautiful setting, the performances from the cast, and the epic love story that exists at its core.
Outlander still also does have a great deal of tournament cloud to try and live up to, given that it’s been in at least the final four for the past three years of the tournament. It was defeated last year by The Brave as it went on to win the top prize — before that, though, it was a reigning champ. This is its chance to leap atop the throne, claim TV victory … and then force its viewers to endure what is going to be an excruciating hiatus leading into the upcoming fifth season.
Suits (#7 seed) – On the flip side, fans of the USA drama can rest assured that their show will be premiered so much sooner — think just a handful of months, most likely. The key difference here, though, is that this is going to be the final run for the show and with that, this is the final year of eligibility for the show in the tournament! (Start playing some sweet, nostalgic song in the background.) For years, Suits has provided so much goodness for viewers of all ages — tremendous character drama, smart writing, romance, and people swearing their faces off. What more could you want with a series about lawyers?
Suits came into the tournament this year one of the bigger underdogs, one that hadn’t previously performed altogether well in the early rounds. Maybe it’s a celebration of the final season, or maybe it’s just a bunch of Darvey fans happy about where the two are in their relationship at the moment. Either way, if you love Suits, the show is giving you clear reason right now to be doing plenty of metaphorical cartwheels.
