Chicago Med season 4 episode 18 spoilers: Dr. Rhodes’ emergency

Chicago Med season 3 episode 8 - Connor Rhodes

Chicago Med season 4 episode 18 is bringing you something rather rare, and also something rather daunting: An emergency within an emergency. What is going to cause a doctor to actually stop a critical surgery mid-way? There are only a few things — a medical ailment of their own, some sort of faulty equipment, or a family crisis. None of these are good, for the doctor and certainly not the patient.

Yet, this is what Dr. Rhodes is facing moving into Chicago Med season 4 episode 18, an episode that has a “great for Colin Donnell, but terrible for Dr. Rhodes” sort of feel to it. It’s great material for the actor, but it could also have some sort of right-to-your-gut reveal that makes you immediately concerned for this character. Take a look at the synopsis that CarterMatt has for you below and then we’ll raise some of our questions on the other side:

04/03/2019 (08:00PM – 09:00PM) (Wednesday) : Dr. Rhodes receives an alarming phone call that prompts him to rush out in the middle of an important surgery. Dr. Halstead comes to the aid of an FBI agent who is brought into the ER, but he suspects there is more to the story than he is being told. Dr. Manning and Dr. Choi find themselves on opposite sides of a major disagreement over doctor-patient confidentiality. TV-14

The obvious indicator here is that the phone call = another emergency, since there’s little other reason why Rhodes would risk a patient. We’re sure that there will be another doctor to pick up the slack, but don’t we know how commanding Connor likes to be about his patients? He wouldn’t hand one off unless absolutely he had to and he had no other choice. We’re worried about Ava, given that she’s not mentioned in this synopses; meanwhile, we’re also worried about his dad. Yes, we know that Connor’s dad currently resides atop Jerk Mountain, but it is still his father and when the chips are down, much of the strife may fade into the background.

As for what else we’re getting…

Why do we gotta relive Will Halstead in the FBI? Obviously, it’s a little bit different than the Ray storyline earlier this year, but the last thing we need is for Will to become an informant again for the Feds and Chicago PD. That went more than badly for him last time. It was horrendously bad. As in, so bad that it decimated a big part of his life and causes him to think and act differently than he ever did before. No more Manstead pain! By the end of this episode, you may find us eating an entire carton of ice cream (carton possibly included) huddled up on the couch in a pool of our own tears.

As for the idea of doctors fighting … yea, we’ve seen that before. How do you make that exciting? The struggle here is all about trying to find a way to give us a little something that we haven’t seen before and throw that extra dose of drama on top.

Obviously, the toughest part of this episode is waiting for it given that April 3 still seems so freakin’ far away. Can’t you just give us some of the goods already? There’s still another episode coming up between now and then on March 27 — you can read more about that here.
