Supergirl season 4 episode 16 preview: Lex Luthor flashbacks
So how is this flashback story going to unfold? For more insight, check out the official Supergirl season 4 episode 16 synopsis that CarterMatt has for you below:
LEX LUTHOR CONTINUES TO WREAK HAVOC – In the wake of Lex Luthor’s (guest star Jon Cryer) return, the show flashes back to what he’s been doing for the last two years and how his secret machinations and plans have affected Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) and Lena (Katie McGrath). Carl Seaton directed the episode written by Dana Horgan & Eric Carrasco (#416). Original airdate 3/24/2019.
Here’s what we are hoping in regards to this story; We want there to be little tidbits and clues throughout it that prove that Lex has always been involved. The question you gotta wonder here is how far ahead were the writers thinking on this? Were they always planning to introduce Lex into the show? If so, they could’ve buried all sorts of clues in the past couple of seasons and made it into a bona-fide scavenger hunt. If not, and they’re having to retroactively add stuff in which would be a little more disappointing. We like the idea of this all being a part of a much larger plan.
We definitely think that the writers would have wanted Lex involved in some way all the way back in season 1, but there’s a pretty complicated process that comes into getting the character cleared to appear — it involves conversations with DC Comics, who obviously want to ensure that the integrity of the role is met. In our dreamworld, Supergirl prepared for this story not even knowing if they’d get a chance to feature Lena’s brother, but now that they’ve got him they already know the journey they are going to take us on with him. We know that he has at least one more episode after this one, and potentially many more through the remainder of the season.
Also, who wants to bet that Lex’s appearance connects just about everything we’ve seen over the course of the season? The Red Daughter storyline is what we’re really talking about here, as this story has mostly just popped in here and there throughout the season, really without a whole lot of context along the way. It’s a great nod to the Superman comics, but we want it to be so much more than that!
