Outlander season 5: Sam Heughan speaks out as filming approaches

In a new post on Instagram (see below), series star Sam Heughan made it clear that he was preparing for the start of the new season. While he did not specify a start date (we’ve already gone through the reasons why that is so hush-hush), you can breathe easy knowing that we’re getting close to more glorious announcements and other fun discussions soon! Obviously, the Outlander filming season may not be as exciting/eventful as when the show’s actually on the air, but there’s certainly a lot still to discuss! Think in terms of casting news, filming locations, promotional photos, teasers, and a whole lot more. The past month and a half has been, by our money, the hardest part of Droughtlander — there haven’t been any new episodes to discuss, and most of the cast and producers are being tight-lipped about all things season 5. Times will be a-changing soon!
There’s one aspect of the Outlander filming experience that we haven’t touched on in a while, but is important to acknowledge as we get closer to the start of production: Traineeships. We discussed this a little bit earlier this year, and based on the information we had around that time, several of those traineeships were scheduled to start up in around mid-March. Fittingly, we’re now in mid-March! We know that there are a ton of rumors out there wondering about the state of season 5 production, but when you look at Sam’s message coupled with the information that was put out there many weeks ago about these traineeships (it’s hard to imagine the cast starting without all of the proper crew present), we’re feeling rather confident that you will see cameras rolling for the cast before too long. We know that there’s been pre-production work going on for months now, and many important facets of the show are being honed and finely-tuned.
And the wait still continues…
As elated as we’ll be when filming begins and we can discuss the various ins and outs of production, it doesn’t suddenly send the premiere-date timeline into warp speed. You’re still likely going to be waiting around for quite some time still to see the upcoming twelve-episode season. We’ll continue to keep watch for the latest scoop, but our current production is that we’re likely still months away from any definite news on that at all. Patience may be difficult when you’re dealing with greatness, but is very much a virtue nonetheless.
