Psych: The Movie 2 details: A better sense of the story
What do we know so far about the movie? There are a few different nuggets of goodness.
For starters, it’s happening! – Sometimes, just the fact that we are getting another one is enough to make us smile.
Filming is happening soon – Given that James Roday and Dule Hill are going to both be in demand for A Million Little Things and Suits, respectively, there’s a super-short window of time in which they can do this.
Timothy Omundson will have a far larger role – This has been in the works ever since he was forced to sit out much of the first movie due to complications from a stroke. We’ve been sending him all the good vibes that we can and we’re so psyched (pun obviously intended) to see him have a big role in the next chapter of the story.
Now, we got some larger details
To use the road-trip analogy, this is akin to finding that one ice-cream shop on your journey that you aren’t going to be to get any other time. It’s joyous and is a memory that will stick with you.
If you’re a diehard Psych-0 (in the world of Psych, such a term is the highest compliment), you may know already that we’re returning back to our beloved Santa Barbara for the new movie. Anytime we think of that now, we automatically think about the “Santa Barbara Skies” song from the musical episode.
TVLine mentions that a big chunk of the movie will be set within The Hirsch Clinic, a recovery center where Lassiter is recovering after being attacked out on the job. The notion of his attack was mentioned in the original synopsis for the movie, but it sounds like this clinic’s going to have a FAR larger role that we first assumed. Most of the story could be set there! There’s something dark and sinister happening behind those walls and our intrepid team of Shawn, Gus, and many of your other favorites will have to figure it out … while also getting re-acclimated to their old environment. Some of these characters have been in San Francisco for a while now and it’s a tricky transition heading back. It’s like getting to the end of a road trip (Yep, still keeping that going) — you’re happy to be there but you’ve realized that your favorite movie theater is renovated, there’s a new department store, and a few of your friends have moved. It feels the same, yet very much different.
We envision this movie being another fun, standalone celebration of all things Psych, one that continues the story and also leaves the door open for something more yet again. Think Psych: The Movie 3, Psych: The Threequel, or Psych: Third Time’s Even More Charming Than Ever, or Psych: You Know That’s Right.
Expect pineapples, nicknames, defiance of authority, and nostalgia down to the last inch. This is why you love Psych — of course, to go along with the performances, the laughs, and pretty much everything else.
Excited for Psych: The Movie 2 to arrive … even if we’re likely months away from it?
