SWAT season 2 episode 18 return date hopes; renewal chatter

SWAT

Following the conclusion of tonight’s SWATthere is no time quite like the present to start to look towards the future. For the case of this return-date article, though, you should know in advance that the future is not immediate.

There is no new episode of SWAT coming on CBS in one week’s time … or two weeks time … or even three weeks time. Why is all of this happening? Why take the wheels off when there is so much in the way of good stuff going down? There is a reason for every hiatus, even if it is not a reason that we are personally all that fond off.

March 14 – This hiatus is mostly a function of hiatuses elsewhere — CBS understandably does not want to air SWAT on a night when there is no new episode of The Big Bang Theory. That would be the network executives basically shrugging and deciding that they don’t want Shemar Moore and the rest of the cast to get decent ratings. Don’t jeopardize a show like that, especially when it is on the bubble as it is.

(For the record, we are reasonably optimistic about the chances of a season 3 — we had more reservations this fall when there were some numbers coming in that were a little smaller than we anticipated, but some of those fears have since started to fade. CBS tends to make bulk announcements at some point in March/April, so keep your fingers crossed for that.)

March 21 – The NCAA Tournament begins! It’s an annual event on CBS and that means an annual hiatus. Spend this time filling out your brackets and/or embarrassing your friends when they lose a final four team on the first day. Isn’t that one of the best ways to spend what we consider to be an excellent annual tradition?

March 28 – The NCAA Tournament continues. Hey, it lasts more than just one week. This is the part where some of your friends start to come back on you in the bracket and you realized that you spoke far too soon. By the start of April, you’re begging for more television to come on in order to distract for how terribly you’re doing and you realize that you owe somebody a large pizza that you made in a very arrogant moment. You try to steal a slice when it comes in. They don’t let you.

(Okay, we’re moving on … we think.)

April 4 – Likely, this is when SWAT is coming back. As we reported earlier today, this is when The Big Bang Theory is returning, and as we noted, it makes sense for the two to air on the same night. The next new episode is entitled “Cash Flow” — we’re not sure how much more there is to say about this episode right now beyond that, but it’s gotta involve money to some degree.

Once CBS confirms something, we’ll be sure to let you know.
