Grey’s Anatomy season 15 episode 17 preview: Are Link, Amelia getting together?

As we approach Grey’s Anatomy season 15 episode 17, one thing feels clear when it comes to Amelia: She is ready for a change. The relationship between her and Owen has had some high points, but also many problems. The toxicity spiraled out of control tonight, leading to her making a big decision: She’s willing to let go of custody with Leo, or being a part in the adoption process. She is turning the page and trying to figure out what’s next.

Amelia’s got a new look! That’s an obvious physical change and for her, this could be viewed as a sign that she’s ready to move on. This is her demonstration of “look at my fresh start” — it’s symbolic on a physical level, but the branches run deep. It carries into who she wants to be and who she wants to spend her time with. Apparently, that could include Link! Remember when it seemed like Meredith had to choose between him and DeLuca? That already feels like months ago! We kinda feel for the Link character given that he seems mostly to exist now for the sake of making people hopeful for other relationships upset. As rocky as Owen and Amelia’s relationship has been as of late, it doesn’t change the fact that they’ve had some really high highs. They’ve experienced those romantic peaks where there are genuine hopes for the future. They’ve felt joy. As of right now, Link and Amelia have felt nothing. There’s just a void there for now.

We should throw at you quickly that there is a big-time caveat to everything that we’re saying, namely that we technically haven’t seen Link and Amelia do ANYTHING just yet. It really just looks like something is going down at the end of the promo (see below), but remember that there is a purpose for these promos: Convincing you to watch. Maybe this is a case of ABC really wanting to push something that could be nothing more than a near miss. Maybe their faces draw closer only to eventually drift back apart — Amelia does mention that she needs to get back to her room. But, as she mentions in the promo, Link’s face is so chiseled! Link also has a new haircut, by the way. Maybe he also wanted a fresh new look for a new start?

Ties are strained as Andrew and Carina confront an unforgiving family history. Meanwhile, Teddy and Owen work together on a married couple who is expecting, and Amelia attends a conference for alternative pain relief.

That synopsis seems to give you a pretty-good indication as to why Amelia mentions her room to Link — they’re obvious off at this convention together. (Consider this a reminder that whatever happens at conventions does not exactly stay at said conventions.)

As for other romance…

Are Teddy and Owen going to get closer together? The promo gives you a second or two of that, while also giving you a little bit of romance as well for Meredith and DeLuca. Apparently, the theme next week is throwing a lot of romance-stuff at the wall and seeing exactly what sticks. The ones that do can be readdressed and for now, the only one we’re reasonably confident in is MerLuca … though Andrew’s father could eventually screw that up with his new program … which does have a serious mad-scientist downside to go along with it.
