Outlander notes: Sam Heughan, Sophie Skelton, & Richard Rankin news!

Outlander season 4

Who is ready for a new edition of CarterMatt’s Outlander notes? It’s been a while since we busted one of these bad boys out, but there are a few different things to talk about and celebrate today so it felt like it was time to bring this back.

Before we go any further, we suggest that you check out our latest Outlander character questions video below! Be sure to subscribe to CarterMatt on YouTube and also take a look at our playlist! We’re posting new Outlander videos every Sunday and you don’t want to miss any of them.

Let’s kick things off here with Sam Heughan, who has been extremely active via his Instagram Stories over the past 24 hours. We strongly suggest checking it out — for starters, you can read about a worthy charitable cause, one that we’ve included in the embedded tweet below. Through My Peak Challenge and his specific charity work, he has done his part to help a number of people in need — today, that includes Oscar, a young boy in need of a stem cell donor.

We’ll be wishing Oscar the best, and hope anyone with the means to help out will.

Meanwhile, Sam also shared today some cool behind-the-scenes videos from the end of season 4 filming when Jamie, Claire, and Young Ian arrived at Shadow Lake. It’s a really cool way in which to experience the world directly through Sam’s eyes, as opposed to the viewpoint presented on Outlander itself.

Finally, Sam also posted a fun series of stories commemorating the birthday of Brianna herself in Sophie Skelton! This is a unique double-birthday within the Outlander world, as both Sophie and Tobias Menzies (who plays her adoptive father Frank) are getting a chance to blow out some candles … at least metaphorically, of course. You’ll be seeing plenty more of Brianna throughout the upcoming fifth season of Outlander, which should be filming before too much longer. Meanwhile, Menzies’ future is a little more of a longshot — with Frank dead, there’s not really a whole lot more production can do with him! We already had a surprise appearance in season 4, and that was so much more than we expected. Here is your customary reminder that Menzies is one of the most exemplary actors working and “To Ransom a Man’s Soul” is a master-class between Tobias and Sam’s performances.

Want to see the best photography of Richard Rankin?

If you’re in the New York City area on March 27, that opportunity is yours! Richard will be hosting an event at the Littlefield Gallery NYC in Brooklyn. For tickets, be sure to visit the link here.

Check out the official synopsis for the event for some additional details:

In the exhibition ‘His Mind’s Eye’, Richard Rankin draws a straight line between art and the claim and beauty of it: he creates a new category of“delicacy”, challenge the sensitivity of the senses, and leaves exciting thoughts in the viewer’s mind. The prints will take you on a journey of emotions and are designed in a specific arrangement for the ultimate experience.

The exhibit will also contain an interactive element that will allow patrons to take photos of themselves to be used in a future collection.

Sound exciting to you? We’re not close to the New York area, but if we were we’d certainly be curious in checking out some of Rankin’s work in-person. It’s amazing just how multi-talented several members of the Outlander cast and crew are! You’ve got Rankin showcasing his photography, Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe producing, Maria Doyle Kennedy is a singer/songwriter, and executive producer Matthew B. Roberts is a gifted photographer in his own right. To think, this is really just scratching the surface of some of what these people can do.
