Outlander season 5 update: Sam Heughan has seen some scripts…

Outlander

Just in case you wanted another reason to be excited about Outlander season 5, here it is: Sam Heughan has seen some of the scripts! Consider this yet another reason to be immensely excited (and giddy!) for what is coming up.

In a post on Twitter today (see the bottom of this article), Sam confirmed the good news with one of the best gifs imaginable. He’s setting the stage for an epic period of production starting soon in Scotland — we’ve been telling you for a while that work is already underway, and a lot of that has to do with making sure the proper sets are built and that everything is ordered. When Sam, Caitriona Balfe, and the rest of the cast arrive for filming, the goal is to have it be a well-oiled machine. Everything should be set up so that work can hum along quite smoothly — which is great, given that even if things are running perfectly, production will probably last until close to the end of the year.

This is easily the most immersive season for Sam and Caitriona both, given that they are now producers to go along with being actors on the show. What that means is that they have a greater say in story direction and matters behind the scenes, and that should help to make the show a stronger, more collaborative experience. Sometimes, having a lot of creative voices can be a little cluttered, but we don’t think that it’s the case when everyone wants the same thing — an awesome story with fantastic twists and turns along the way, coupled with some moments that will make fans of the books smile ear to ear. (A good portion of season 5 should be based on The Fiery Cross — there’s still a little bit from Drums of Autumn that could be included in here, as well.)

Based on Sam’s message, it is pretty clear that he’s psyched about the direction of the show; with that in mind, we probably should be, as well. The man knows his scripts! He’s seen some of the best that this show has to offer. (We have an added reason to be thrilled, given that Jessica’s cousin Megan Ferrell Burke is among the writing team this season.)

If you missed it…

Earlier today, we talked a little bit more in-depth about the long-term future of Outlander, including some of the latest rumors that are fluttering around out there. You can see some of that now by visiting the link here.

Also worth noting today is our discussion about possible season 5 premiere dates — including why March or April 2020 may be the best time in order to launch the series.
