ABC’s ‘Castle’ season 5 spoilers: ‘Mad Men’ alum running from the mob

After taking on the likes of local news and “Storage Wars” early on this season, “Castle” is going to be heading to the mob later this season. How much so? Let’s just say that Castle and Beckett are going to have to take someone into their own custody to keep him from getting “whacked.”

According to a new report from TVLine, the hit ABC show is plotting an episode set to air in the November sweeps period all about the life of the mafia, and Patrick Fischler (who has appeared in dozens of shows including “Mad Men” and “Lost”) is going to be taking on the part of Leo Conrad, a man who gets caught up accidentally in a death that has members of the mob chasing after him. Meanwhile, Tony Denison of “The Closer” will be playing the role of Mickey Dolan, a pretty dangerous man from the famed McElroy crime family. So what’s the real connection here? At one point, Leo and Mickey were friends, but they ended up having some sort of problem that led to them going their separate ways. Now, it’s possible that Mickey could be one of the many mobsters in this episode trying to hunt him down.

Even though the mob can be a pretty serious subject to tackle on TV, we hope that the show continues to embrace its fun roots with it as much as it possibly can. After all, the strongest episodes of “Castle” are the ones where you have some reasons to laugh while you are intrigued and surprised about the case. Plus, we probably need a good half a season off from heavy drama after what happened during season 4.
