MacGyver season 3 episode 18 spoilers: Michael Des Barres returning!

Murdoc

MacGyver season 3 episode 18 has the makings of all things great. After all, you’re getting not only the return of David Dastmachian as Murdoc, but also Michael Des Barres as Nicholas Helman! As a side note: We just watched Bird Box and are wondering if there was anyone else out there that was screaming MURDOC at their televisions when Dastmachian came on screen!?

It’s time to dive back into the MacGyver history books for a moment. You’ll remember that Helman is the man responsible for mentoring Murdoc and the majority of everything he knows, he knows because of Helman. That doesn’t mean that the two have a peachy relationship though, and that could come to light once more in this episode. Take a look at the synopsis below for some more details:

“Murdoc + Helman + Hit” – When Nicholas Helman (Michael Des Barres) resurfaces to carry out a killing spree, the Phoenix is forced to get help from the one person who knows him best… his protégé, Murdoc, on MACGYVER, Friday, March 15 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

There are a lot of different/very cool things to break down here, but let’s start with how awesome it is that MacGyver is bringing back that original Murdoc again and pairing him with Dastmalchian’s version? There’s something wonderfully nostalgic about it … in between all of the killing and violence of course. There’s also something fun about seeing MacGyver have to work with Murdoc given that this is one of the last things he’d ever want to do.

This episode is also going to mark the first meeting between Murdoc and Desi Nguyen; don’t you think that this is going to be just a little bit nuts? Murdoc probably will admire the determination that Desi has, even if he hates that she’s fighting for the good guys. Technically, we know that Murdoc does still have a blind spot in the form of his son; that’s one of the only reasons he is currently behind bars in the first place.

Murdoc episodes of MacGyver are often some of the best — he’s the show’s most-dynamic villain and really has a sort of Joker/Batman relationship with the title character. Regardless of where Mac is or what he’s doing, it’s hard to imagine that he is ever going to fully escape Murdoc in his life. Even when he’s in jail, the guy still finds a way to become looped into what the Phoenix Foundation in some way. We imagine that for Mac and the rest of the team, that’s pretty stressful (who wants to always be afraid that this guy is going to escape and kill everyone?); yet, for viewers, it’s some sort of twisted delight. The hard part is just waiting until March 15 to see him back. The other hard part is just waiting in general for the show to return next week, as there is no new episode on the air tonight. Sigh.

If you missed it…
