The Masked Singer finale video: The Monster goes old-school
We’ve made it no secret for some time now that the Monster is our winner pick and for good reason — he’s got quite possibly the coolest costume, he moves around the stage a lot, and he’s also shown to have a rather wonderful singing voice. There’s also the fact that the judges seem to have no clue who’s actually under that furry mask. (Is it actually a mask? It’s actually going to feel more like the Monster’s head is chopped off when that thing is lifted off … which could be rather disturbing. In general, the one bummer of the unmaskings is that you are somewhat demystifying all of these people who you can suspend belief about.
While it does seem as though the internet has figured out Monster’s identity — some figured it out as early as the premiere — we imagine that the reason he’s done so well keeping it under wraps on the show is doing so much variety. He’s done rock, soul, pop, and he’s doing something different (and vintage 90’s) in the sneak peek below. He’s taking on the classic “This Is How We Do It” complete with some pretty incredible dance moves — we gotta imagine that it’s pretty sweaty being under this outfit and it’s not the easiest to move around in. Yet, he somehow does figure that out and puts on a real performance.
We also should note that we’ve got some serious questions about whatever sort of party the Monster has going on in the performance — it seems like some sort of weird acid-trip slumber party where a one-eyed monster is somehow everyone’s overlord. You apparently are required to get super-excited and jump up and down anytime said overload actually sings something, as well.
Is there anything that could slow the Monster down?
Sure! Think in terms of the super-ambiguous way in which votes are tabulated for this show — it’s really not emphasized as a big deal on The Masked Singer itself, but it still feels arbitrary since we’re counting on the judges and the audience to figure this out. The elimination of the Lion last week was the first time we felt like someone went home perhaps a little bit early … you could at least make a case for her being in the finale. Granted, if you do that, and then raises another question: Who do you take out of the finale, in turn? That’s the situation that we’re facing.
