How to Get Away with Murder season 5 finale spoilers: The showdown
Anyone, we’re gearing up for an incredible end to this season, especially when you stop, smell the roses, and then contemplate how we got here. Nate Sr. was killed by … Laurel’s brother? How random is that? How messy is this family? Is there a way that Annalise and the remaining members of her dream team can just teleport far away from Laurel’s fam at this point? Seems like the best solution for everyone.
The finale promo sets the stage for what is coming next, and we’d describe it almost like this: The team needs to make their move before they get got. ABC is basically putting it the same way in their synopsis: “Annalise and her team need to get to the truth before the truth gets them.” There’s almost no time for anyone to act and they better act quickly. If they don’t, someone’s going to beat them to the punch and leave all of them in at least metaphorical body-bags. Their lives could be over as they know it. It’s what happens when you play games with life and death. That’s the tool of the trade for some characters at this point.
If you want to look at the saga of How to Get Away with Murder psychologically, you can do that with the following question: What happens when people are so conditioned to live within a stage of panic? They become used to being there. They thrive there. In a lot of ways, panic becomes their currency. Maybe that is where we are with these characters — they avoid prosecution (and the FBI) here, they take a few deep breaths, and then they get ready to play the same darn game a little bit more down the road as soon as another body falls. It’s a death to cover a cover-up, or disappearance to make their own futures appear in front of them. There’s almost always a problem, and any solution finds itself being temporary.
