Gotham season 5 episode 9 spoilers: Ben McKenzie writes Jim’s trial!
Gotham season 5 episode 9 is going to air on Fox come Thursday, March 7, and there are a few things to like about it from the jump. For starters, “The Trial of Jim Gordon” as written by none other than Ben McKenzie himself. Meanwhile, it was also directed by Erin Richards! This marks a chance for two on-camera talents to showcase some more of their skills behind the scenes. (For Richards in particular, she’s going to have the challenge of directing herself, which isn’t altogether easy for just about anyone.)
Below, CarterMatt does offer the official Gotham season 5 episode 9 synopsis with some other information when it comes to some of what lies ahead:
After Gordon is shot in an attempt to establish a cease-fire, he hallucinates a trial for his life that could have deadly real consequences. Meanwhile, Ivy (guest star Peyton List) returns and puts her spell on Bruce, leaving Selina to defend herself. Lee has a life-changing moment as Barbara and Penguin consider their next moves in the all-new “The Trial of Jim Gordon” episode of GOTHAM airing Thursday, March 7 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. (GTH-512) (TV-14 L, V)
There’s a lot to be intrigued about within this episode, whether it be Jim having such an odd hallucination or us as viewers getting to see a little bit more of Ivy, a character who has really only come into prominence for the past season and a half.
From a trivia perspective, one of the most important things about “The Trial of Jim Gordon” is that it is actually far the last episode of Gotham as a series to film — it’s one of the two that was added after the original 10-episode final season order. We’re sure that this had to be a fairly weird experience for the show’s cast, having to frame what they were shooting in this episode in a different period of time. At this particular moment, they already knew how the story ended and they still had to find a way in order to play pretend … while also playing pretend to be their characters, of course.
So long as this episode continues the trajectory for pretty much everything else we’ve seen over the course of Gotham season 5, it feels fairly clear that we’re going to enjoy this.
