Of course, there was the big mystery at the heart of the episode, one that brought back the character of Oliver Crane and a wide array of conspiracy theories that went along with that. At first, it actually felt like some of his latest investigative work led to him being killed. That didn’t turn out to be the case; instead, Crane ended up faking his own death after a source was murdered, which led to a mad dash for the team to find some answers. This was a fun episode, one that, as a whole, packed a lot of content and mystery in there. The good news is that Crane did survive the episode, and possibly got some more information for his own unique brand of news.

As far as the case goes, it was exciting and had some pretty good moments for Pride, Gregorio, and Sebastian at the same time.

Tonight’s episode also did bring into the fold an important new character in Liam (Rob Benedict), a man who worked with Hannah when she overseas for a long-term mission in Oman. He turned up out of the blue and we learned throughout the episode that he was certainly a little bit aloof. It was hard for her to have a lengthy conversation with him, he was spending a lot of time at the bar, and then almost out of the blue, he vanished while telling her via voicemail that he had another assignment that he had to care for.

What we did learn about their old case is that there were some people higher up on the food chain who committed some rather untoward actions in the case. They didn’t quite know about it, and after the story tonight we’re left with almost as many questions as answers. With that being said, we don’t think that this mystery is necessarily over.

CarterMatt Verdict

From a case-of-the-week perspective, we wouldn’t say that this was in our top five of the season — it was great to have Crane back, but there have just been so many electric cases this season! It’s almost more of a compliment to this episodes than a slam on this one. It’s the Hannah – Liam story teases that gets us a little bit excited about the future, mostly because there is so much that we’re going to have a chance to learn.
