Animal Kingdom season 4 spoilers: Is someone new in J’s life?

According to a new report from Deadline, Kelli Berglund is set to have a recurring role on the TNT series, playing the role of a “young, wealthy college freshman” named Olivia. She’s going to share a statistics class with J and, per the casting notice, “knows how to charm.” What does that mean? It’s possible that J could have a new love interest, but we also do wonder how in the world someone like her would be able to reel in J given just how cold and sometimes-heartless he can truly be? We’re talking here about a guy who does have a tendency to come off rather cold and often struggles to keep many relationships in his life in some sort of stable form.
As we’ve already pointed out via the latest Animal Kingdom season 4 promo (which you can watch here), we’re likely going to see the continuation of the cold war between J and Smurf that began at the end of last season. During the time in which she was locked up, he really worked to build and stabilize the empire to suit his own interest rather than hers. He has more of a nose for this sort of stuff that Deran or Craig, and all of a sudden he’s not just some young kid anymore; he’s a genuine power player.
So what would Olivia be interested in when it comes to a guy like this? We imagine that at least some of the appeal here would be based on his status almost as an outlier, someone different from anyone else in her life. Maybe she looks at him as an opportunity to rebel from some of her family and show a little bit of a different side. We do want to see something new and dynamic from these two characters … just as we want to know whether or not J views this Olivia character as someone worthy of his time, or someone worthy of being a target for a future robbery.
