Grey’s Anatomy season 15: Chandra Wilson on directing landmark episode

Milestone episodes can mean a number of different things — there are those that recognize the show making it past a specific number, and also those that involve breaking a specific record. Later this month, you are going to see Grey’s Anatomy ultimately doing the latter, as it becomes officially the longest-running medical drama of all time.

This episode is going to have significance for many people but for Chandra Wilson, that significance is two-fold. Not only is she one of the series’ original cast members, but she is also directing this upcoming episode. She found out that she was directing this big announcement at the start of the season, and it wasn’t a situation of her asking for a milestone — it’s just something that she ended up receiving! Here’s some of what she had to say on the subject to BuzzFeed News:

“I noticed it at the beginning of the season, because we’ve been counting to see which episode was going to get us there, and so when I saw my name [listed as director] I was really excited and really flattered.”

Wilson approached making the episode knowing that there was a lot of weight behind telling the story, and she wanted to make sure that it lived up to some of the expectations that people out there had for it. While this is a milestone, Wilson makes it clear that there is also so much great stuff still to come:

“We end up with an episode that really lets the fans know that we continue … That’s really at the end of the day what it ends up being about, so I’m excited.”

Beyond this episode, we know that there is certainly quite a bit more to look forward to with this show … and we also know that there is a season 17 renewal potentially on the horizon. Nothing is 100% official at the moment, but all signs suggest that this is absolutely something that is going to be coming and something that we should be prepared to be excited for from start to finish.

Before we get around to the milestone, note that there is still another Grey’s Anatomy episode airing Thursday on ABC.
