The Masked Singer season 8 video: The Monster sings ‘Stay with Me’

This moment was first teased all the way back in the season 1 trailer, and there was something about those ten or so seconds that got us immediately all-in on watching this costumed character’s journey. There’s just something so endearing about watching a guy in a monster costume do one of the most emotional songs of the past several years. It seems like the judges are actually going to be emotional on the other side of it, and we do think that it goes well with some of the character’s story — he’s someone who feels like he was abandoned at the top of his game, and this song is a plea for just something simple, something to cling onto. (We do think that the Monster should be releasing an album within a few weeks of the finale — he’d be smart to try and capitalize on the enormous success that he’s had this season!)
Given that there are two costumed characters getting eliminated on Wednesday night, we do think that this raises the stakes even more for this particular performance. The Monster is near the top of our power rankings, but we’d also say that everyone at this point has made a compelling case to enter the finale. We’d say that the Peacock, the Lion, and the Monster collectively have made the biggest case for the final round — though the Rabbit is a definite darkhorse just because he is such a crowd-pleaser. We don’t really know what the audience is really looking for when it comes to the voting and that’s what makes it interesting.
Are we going to see the first real Masked Singer backlash of the season Wednesday? We wonder, mostly given the fact that this is the first time where we don’t think there is an easy person to eliminate. It’s been obvious through most of the episodes that someone was a little bit weaker than the rest of the group.
