The first thing that we wonder entering this episode is simply this: Are we finally hitting rock bottom with Fiona? The title for the episode (“You’ll Know the Bottom When You Hit It”) suggests that it’s possible, and we do at least think she’s aware now of how badly her decisions have hurt other people — namely Lip. She genuinely apologized for getting Jason drunk, not realizing that he was in recovery and was 100 days sober. He wants her out of the house now and in the promo for this episode, is seen packing up her things.

There is a part of us worried that Fiona’s just going to die, which would be one way in which Emmy Rossum leaves the show; yet, we want to be more hopeful than that. The best thing that we can hope for is that the character just finds a way to head out of Chicago and have a new start somewhere else.

So what’s coming up for some of the other characters within this episode? The Shameless season 9 episode 7 synopsis below offers you a little more insight into what could be coming there:

When a blackout hits the South Side, Kevin and Veronica come up with a plan to bring the neighborhood together; Carl grows suspicious of Debbie’s attempts to get closer with Kelly; Fiona receives guidance from an unexpected person.

At the moment, it’s so weird to contrast what’s going on with Lip/Fiona to what’s happening with Carl — while we know Kelly’s important to him, it does seem small in comparison. Yet, it’s clear why he’s so upset: He loves Kelly and he doesn’t love the fact that his sister seems to be trying to make a move on her. Meanwhile, Kevin and V could be the beacons of hope that the community needs … which is kind of funny given that for most of tonight’s episode, we witnessed Kevin being the biggest coward imaginable when it comes to the idea of getting a vasectomy.

On the other side of Shameless season 9 episode 12, remember this: There are only two more episodes this season. With Rossum departing by the finale, the show’s going to have to really accelerate some of its story with her. Elsewhere, we’re just hoping for some signature family drama. The story’s strong right now mostly because a lot of it feels so earned.
