‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 9 spoilers: Ready for some … humor?

In the latest trailer that we showed off recently for “Grey’s Anatomy” season 9, what we really ended up seeing was a recurring theme: drama, topped with more drama and with a little extra sprinkle of drama on top. With that in mind,  isn’t it nice to have a little bit of news about something funny that is coming up down the road?

Speaking within a new interview with TVLine, the director of the upcoming October 25 episode in Kevin McKidd did his best to promise that there would be some good laughs coming up for an installment that should allow everyone to take in a deep breath and smile:

“The first three episodes deal with all the repercussions of the finale, so Episode 4 is very comedic … We needed some lightness. It’s good to be dark for a while, but people like to have their lightness… the more kind of slightly zany, screwball stuff that Grey’s does so well. Tonally it’s so different from the first three episodes of the season.”

However, you really should not expect this sequence of laughs to become a permanent fixture on the show anytime soon. As a matter of fact, the episode coming after this one is going to be the one featuring both Meredith and Cristina in pivotal roles; and suffice it to say, this is going to be one of the show’s most-dramatic hours yet as the two characters try to cope with everything going on in their lives.

Do you think that “Grey’s Anatomy” is better as a show with this sort of balance?
