SEAL Team season 2 debate: Should there be a finale cliffhanger?

SEAL Team season 2

There is no new episode of SEAL Team on CBS tonight; unfortunately, we do still have a long ways to go until the show returns! In one month’s time, David Boreanaz and the rest of the cast will be back and with that, we’ll get a chance to see once more what lies ahead for Bravo team.

Before we get around to that, though, why not touch on another question, one specified in the title. Should there be a finale cliffhanger? We think at the moment that there’s a certain case both for and against it.

The case for the cliffhanger – Cliffhangers are exciting — there’s no other way in which to describe it at the moment. You want to have people talking about what could be coming up next, and let’s face it — this is a show that can really cultivate cliffhangers rather easily given the danger that you put Jason Hayes and Bravo Team through almost every single episode. In the end, you want to do basically whatever you can in order to ensure that people keep watching — especially on the other side of a long cliffhanger. There’s certainly nothing wrong with finding a way to keep people talking.

The case against a cliffhanger – The biggest one is simply that you don’t know for sure if the series is coming back for another season or not, and you don’t really want to run the risk of ending on a cliffhanger without a whole lot of resolution for Jason or any other character. Maybe you also just want a more tied-up conclusion where you don’t have to spend the summer thinking about what’s next.

At the moment, we are cautiously optimistic over a renewal (though we haven’t seen the ratings for the show at 10:00 p.m. Eastern just yet) and that’s why we would go ahead and work on a big cliffhanger. It’s a way to keep people thinking and discussing the show and given where we are right now, the added risk could prove worthwhile. We’ll just have to see if the writers feel the same way.

More than likely, you’re going to have a chance to see the SEAL Team season 2 finale at some point in May — we’ll have to wait in order to get an official schedule a little bit later in the spring.
