Best Gotham ‘ship: Is it Nygmobblepot, BatCat, or someone else? (‘Shipper Showdown 2019)
Given that this show is in its final season on the air, it feels like now is the perfect time to look at some of the best pairings established either by the show or within the fandom. There are so many options to choose from, mostly because Gotham has long established itself to be a series all about relationships in one way or another. Sometimes, they are romantic; other times, they are political. No matter what, Gotham relationships are always interesting and multifaceted.
Below, you can check the list of ‘ships I’ve compiled — unlike the ‘Shiptober series CarterMatt does in October, there’s no real limitation here in terms of them having to be from the past year. The goal was mostly to just come up with some of the most engaging Gotham ‘ships from the past few years and put them in a positive light.
At the bottom of this article, there’s a poll for you to share your favorite! Vote however often you like until February 13. The winning ‘ship will face off against many others from separate shows in the ‘Shipper Showdown finale on February 14.
Bruce & Selina – BatCat is one of the show’s longest-running ‘ships, and that makes some sense when you think a little bit about their comic-book history. They’ve had their romantic moments on the show, but how much is Selina’s transformation changing things? Hopefully not too much!
Gordon & Barbara – Despite the fact that Barbara is a murderer and an all-around not great person at times, you can’t deny their history … or deny what happened between the two of them a little bit earlier this season. Who would’ve thought they would find their way back to each other after everything that happened?
Gordon & Lee – For a while, it felt like the writers for the show were building towards Jim and Leslie Thompkins being endgame. At this point, and especially without seeing Morena Baccarin this season so far, there is a little bit more uncertainty.
Jeremiah & Ecco – They’re both psychotic, Ecco is obsessed with him, and she seems to be doing for him on another level what Barbara was doing for Jerome back during the show’s second season. Now, they’re basically in full bloom with the two preparing their next crazy act.
Nygma & Lee – This was one of the ships we never saw coming because of how it first came about and how exactly it ended. Yet, the back-and-forth the two had was fascinating to watch. Who knows what will happen if they collide again now?
Nygma & Oswald – Nygmobblepot is one that first came about earlier on in the series once Oswald’s feelings for him became clear. While their relationship has certainly become complicated since then (to put things mildly), there’s always going to be that pull hanging over them that could eventually pull them together.
Tabitha & Barbara – Tabitha’s death at the start of the season is one that is still incredibly frustrating, mostly because it felt like it was mostly just done because Gotham had too many characters and there was an inevitable casualty with that. The relationship between these two was just so dynamic and fun to watch; I miss it.
