In a new post on Instagram, the former wrestler (and relatively-recent The Flash guest star) is going to be back later this season for an episode entitled “Searching.” We first saw his character of Lance Hamilton earlier this season. He’s a guy who does rogue, off-the-grid jobs for the government like no other, and while he is extremely skilled at it, there is a drawback — a constant sense of loneliness. This is a guy without a team, and without really much in the way of stability around him. It makes him effective at going under the radar, but it does also come at a pretty clear cost. This is something that we hope NCIS: Los Angeles is going to possibly explore with Sam, as we saw Lance have a discussion with LL Cool J’s character about going in this direction with his own career. Sam is a guy who has lost a lot already with Michelle, and we imagine that there is something appealing to him about possibly going out on his own. He can be detached and follow some of his own rules.

We’re, in the end, just not sure that this is the right permanent path for Sam. Why is that? Well, above all else we’re just not altogether sure that he can really handle it — he may not always be the most open guy in the world, but he loves his team and he loves this family. We could see him getting away here and there, but permanently is a totally different thing.
