Last Man Standing season 7 episode 13 video: Mike Baxter, wedding officiant

Last Man Standing

What’s coming up on Last Man Standing season 7 episode 13 when it airs on Fox this coming Friday? For starters, you’re going to see a surprise wedding — or, at least a surprise vow renewal ceremony. This is where Mike Baxter comes into play.

As you can see within the new promo below, Chuck and Carol are going to be renewing their vows and this leads to Mike making the choice to be the best wedding officiant ever. This leads to him, apparently, thinking about the best way possible to be a master of theology. As it turns out, becoming a pastor is a little bit more work than he realized! There’s probably going to be some humor in this, mostly because there’s almost always humor in seeing Mike push things over-the-top. We’re excited to see what the end results of this story are — we’re expecting happiness, but probably not in the way that Chuck and Carol expecting.

From a pop-culture perspective, you do see Last Man Standing get a little bit meta in here as Mike makes the proclamation that he could host the Oscars — or is this more Tim Allen as Mike saying that he could host the Oscars? This episode may have been written at around the time that some of the Oscar hosting controversy started — or, at the very least it was filmed at a time in which it was center stage and this was included at the last minute. No matter the timing, it is a clever nod to real-life headlines.

One of the things that is somewhat interesting about this episode in a meta sense is that Fox’s press release for this event notes it as two separate episodes; meanwhile, the network is only promoting it as one. At the moment, our assumption is that this is going to count for two episodes in the 22-episode order, but that Fox doesn’t want to confuse more casual fans by trying to explain all of this. The average viewer doesn’t consistently keep track of how many episodes there are per season. It’s still something to watch out for, though, since sometimes episode orders are fluid and can change midseason.

Ultimately, we’re just glad to see Last Man Standing mix things up with an hour-long format, since this is a chance to play around with some different forms of storytelling than we often see.
