Should we feel pretty good about the chances of a Manifest season 2 renewal over at NBC? We’ve been that way for a while now, and for good reason. While the ratings for the series are down a little bit from where they were in the fall, the series does still have a devoted audience. It also frequently trends on social media throughout many of its episodes on the East Coast. All of that screams optimism, even if the network is being reasonably patient with the show’s renewal compared to some others that are on the network. (Think in terms of New Amsterdam, which already got picked up for another batch of episodes.)
Speaking via Page Six while at the Paley Center for Media earlier this week, showrunner Jeff Rake made it clear that he’s hopeful for the future to come back — as we all should be:
“I haven’t heard anything yet about a Season 2 pickup but I’m optimistic … We do well. The studio and the network like the show.”
So why not renew it yet? The fact that there are multiple parties involved here probably has something to do with it. We do think that we’re eventually going to get there with Manifest, but it takes negotiations and making sure that everyone is on the same page. There are always discussions to be had but for now, there’s no reason to be anything other than confident over the future.
For now, the big focus simply needs to be on the final episodes of this season — after all, we have a feeling that there are going to be some BIG twists coming up. The writers probably planned this story out as one that is going to last for at least a little while beyond a season 1, so we’d be shocked if everything at the end of this season is tied together in some neat little bow.
If you loved Manifest…
Be sure to check out the show live the next couple of weeks! Even though we’re confident that it will be coming back for more episodes down the line, why not go ahead and give it the biggest ratings bump possible? The more you can help the show, the better off it will be moving into a potential season 2 down the line.
