FBI: Most Wanted: Julian McMahon to lead CBS’ spin-off

FBI

CBS is hoping to bring their new spin-off FBI: Most Wanted to the air this fall, and we’ve now learned about one of the leads!

According to a report from Deadline, Julian McMahon (Nip/Tuck, the original Charmed) is set to star on the show as Jess LaCroix, “an ‘agent’s agent’ who’s at the top of his game and oversees the team from the FBI’s Most Wanted Unit, which is assigned the most extreme and egregious cases.” This is the guy who will help to really run point on a number of the cases and figure out how to bring these really bad people in.

We’ll be the first to admit that superficially, there are a number of similarities between this show and not just FBI, but also Criminal Minds given that it is also geared around a team bent on tracking down criminals from all over the country. The main difference here is that the show’s got a little bit of a broader focus, and tackling some bad people who are probably more famous/infamous. These are people whose faces are out there for people to find sometimes, and we think the search for them really has no limit.

This spin-off was recently given a series commitment by CBS, which means that the network will be forced to pay a substantial penalty if it is not ordered. With that in mind, there’s a big reason to think that it’s going to get that green light. It’s also airing on a network that has done some things right with franchises over the years. Just look at what they have going with NCIS right now, or with what they had with CSI for many years. Technically, you could also consider Hawaii, Five-0, and MacGyver a franchise since all three shows are technically a part of the same universe.

We’ll probably learn a little bit more about this spin-off in the weeks ahead, including if there are some other familiar faces in the cast. While it may seem a little fast for CBS to be spinning off FBI, remember that this is what executive producer Dick Wolf did with Chicago Fire — the premiere of Chicago PD was only a season late, and it was only two years after that Chicago Med was born. Word is that there’s an idea for a third series out there within this franchise, and that’s something to watch out for down the road if the new spin-off is successful.
