Criminal Minds season 15: Is there hope for Shemar Moore appearance?

It’s pretty fair to say that there are a lot of priorities to tackle entering Criminal Minds season 15, a.k.a. the final season. You’ve gotta resolve the emotional cliffhanger with Reid and JJ, show off the arc of Big Bad Everett Lynch, and then also then find a way to give each series regular a personal story or two.

Then, there’s also a larger question here of returning characters. Who could come back? Who should come back? Shemar Moore is obviously a name that’s going to come up, given that he was a longtime cast member and still seems beloved by just about everyone. He’s also still in the CBS family via SWAT and he has appeared already since his departure. It’s fair to assume that he could, in theory, make another appearance. Given that Erica Messer told CarterMatt recently that the series finale will film in May, there should be some time in which this show isn’t conflicting with production of his own show.

For now, though, Messer is staying coy about bringing back Moore, let alone anyone else. Here is some of what she had to say via Entertainment Tonight:

“There’s talk of all of that, but we’re dealing with what’s right in front of us, which is we’re able to have Jane Lynch guest star [as Reid’s mother] for an episode in the final 10. The characters who have remained here, who have been doing the work day in and day out, it’s honoring that, but also, we want to acknowledge the history of the series … We’re trying to find ways to make all of those things happen.”

It’s hard to imagine that every former cast member of this show will be coming back for the final season, but even a couple of cameos here and there would suffice. Even if they don’t turn up, we can at least imagine that some of them are out somewhere in the world and happy. If we need to spend our time on the current crop of heroes populating the small screen, that will have to do.

If there are some cameos, the one thing we hope is that they somehow stay a surprise until their episodes air. Since it’s the final season, you can create these surprises since you’re not as concerned about a ratings bump that would come from an early announcement.
