‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 4 spoilers: Want to see Paul Wesley in uniform?

Who doesn’t love a “Vampire Diaries” flashback episode? It’s no secret that executive producer Julie Plec likes to take some of her characters back in time, which is especially no surprise given that there are some characters here with so much backstory to be explored.

Take as a prime example here the Salvatore brothers. We have already seen them both in the Civil War and in the “Boardwalk Empire” era known as prohibition, so why not take a lead forward here to the 1940s? According to a report from Zap2It, there will be an episode that takes us back to Stefan’s days fighting in World War II, where we are sure he must have really cleaned house against the enemy given that nobody would have really known how to defeat him. We don’t really know for sure why we are going back to this particular era, but if there is one thing that we have learned for sure via this show, it is that these flashbacks are always a part of the show for some sort of a purpose. (In other words, they are not completely and totally irrelevent.)

Speaking of flashbacks, the website also confirms that a Scottish actor by the name of Paul Telfer is going to play Alexander, a vampire hunter back in the 1100s who, as we told you about previously, is going to have some sort of interesting connection with Claire Hilt’s Rebekah. Hopefully, this episode will provide us with a bit more insight as to why she is the way that she is, and also help to map her story for the future now that she has a metaphorical scarlet letter on her as the person responsible for sending Elena straight off Wickery Bridge.

Does a World War II flashback seem particularly interesting to you?
