Outlander notes: Sam Heughan, Caitriona Balfe’s other projects

OutlanderGiven that we’ve been so thick into the latest Outlander season as of late, we haven’t had a chance to share much when it comes to what the stars are up to away from the show! That changes today, and we will be bringing you some more updates on the cast through out the Droughtlander. Our CarterMatt Outlander notes are back, and we imagine that we’ll have a few of these to hand down over the next several weeks, so be sure to check back often.

Let’s begin with Sam Heughan, given that he is just starting to open up about his new film project SAS: Red Notice, which he has been working on for quite some time now. This project will be intense, action-packed, and could feature the most drama on a train since the premiere episode of Bodyguard. Heughan’s role is front and center in the project and has a rather exceptional cast around him including Ruby Rose, who recently made her debut as Batwoman for The CW, and also the iconic Andy Serkis.

The two videos below (via Sam’s Instagram) give you a small taste of what Sam has been up to, and then also what you can expect story-wise from this cinematic adaptation. We imagine that this is just the beginning of what we’re going to hear about this movie over the next several months, though filming here will likely wrap up before Sam returns to Outlander. Ruby Rose also has to come back to North America to film the Batwoman pilot soon.

As for Caitriona Balfe’s new project…

While waiting for season 5 to premiere, rest assured that you’re going to get a chance to see Balfe on the big screen! Her upcoming Ford v. Ferrari movie, which was filmed last year and features a star-studded cast in its own right (including Christian Bale and The Punisher star Jon Bernthal), is set to release on Friday, June 28. This movie was directed by the fantastic James Mangold, which was probably one of the most-appealing things about the project to Caitriona. While it may be a period piece in its own right (the project is set in the 1960’s), it couldn’t be more different from Outlander in terms of the subject matter.
