Scream Queens season 3 revival considered by Ryan Murphy
In a new post on Instagram, the super busy showrunner confirmed that he has had conversations regarding bringing the show back with some of the primary cast members including Billie Lourd, Lea Michele, and Emma Roberts. His feeling is that it was canceled too soon — creatively, that makes sense given that there were certainly more stories to tell. With that being said, it wasn’t a shock that it was canceled given that the ratings for season 2 were far from great. That’s why if it does return, it’s hard to imagine it coming back on Fox … though that may be for the best. It never really felt like the perfect match for the broadcast network, given that it wasn’t allowed to go as dark as it probably needed to be in order to be super-successful. Maybe if it had premiered on FX or a streaming service (Murphy now has an overall deal over at Netflix), it could have performed significantly better.
Murphy discusses in the post the idea of doing a movie or a short limited series — to us, the ideal format for a show like this is something around six to eight one-hour episodes. It really doesn’t need to be substantially longer than that to achieve its goal; the longer it lasts, the more potential that the story spirals completely out of control as has been the case with some seasons of Murphy’s other shows.
Another order of business for Scream Queens would be finding a way to get some of the same top-tier talents back on board for more. Just remember here that the first two seasons featured the likes of John Stamos, Taylor Lautner, Ariana Grande, Keke Palmer, Abigail Breslin, Jamie Lee Curtis, and a number of other big names. Murphy has the ability to attract stars in a way few other producers do, and we’d want to see that tradition continue. There’s just something fun that comes from seeing actors outside of their typical element — Scream Queens allows that.
