America’s Got Talent: The Champions video: Jackie Evancho performs

Jackie Evancho is one of the most famous singers to come out of America’s Got Talent over the past decade and a half. When she first auditioned, it produced a genuine “wow” moment that led to comparisons between her and Susan Boyle. Both took the internet by storm and had a great deal of buzz about them after the fact.

Now, Jackie Evancho is back for America’s Got Talent: The Champions — will she actually be able to impress the judges enough to make it to the finale?

In watching this performance, the best thing that you can say is that Jackie’s voice is still superb — she has a tremendous range and understanding of when to go big and when to be quieter. She offers up dynamics to this performance, and we definitely think it helps her that she is doing one of the most famous songs in Broadway history in “Music of the Night.”

Is there an issue with the performance at all? Well maybe, but not one that is her fault. We feel like the producers are giving some of their performers not enough time for them to really shine — this is short. Far too short for a song like this where we could’ve seen Jackie continue to build momentum leading to some of the high notes. We also do worry about her future chances this season, mostly because of the fact that there are so many singers that have been put through to the finale already. Because of that, it’s going to be rather hard for almost any other singer to make it there; no matter what happens moving forward now, we’re facing a situation here where the vast majority of finalists are going to be singers.

For Jackie, we don’t think that Evancho really needs to make it to the finale in order for her time on this show to be successful — instead, we think that her #1 priority should really just be delivering a great performance (which she does) that reminds people that she’s still doing what she does so well. It’s about having more people reminded of her talent, and then using this as a springboard for so much more.
