Game of Thrones season 8: Should HBO air promo during Super Bowl?
Let’s start off this article with what we know for now, and that is rather simple: HBO has a somewhat-recent history of airing ads for the big game, given that they previously did something like this for Westworld. Yet, at the same time, it’s still not altogether common for television networks or streaming outlets to do this. The only reason to do so is if you want to make a big splash and flex a little bit of muscle.
Let’s make one thing clear at the moment, and it’s simply that HBO does not need to do really anything to promote this show. It’s Game of Thrones! While of course, we would love to see a trailer, at the same time we’re more than aware of the fact that they already have the most successful show in the history of the network. There’s nothing that they necessarily have to do in order to get people to watch. From a monetary standpoint, paying for an ad is not something that they may need to do.
For the time being, we should note (via The Wrap) that HBO is not disclosing their plans for tomorrow’s big game one way or another, so we’re going to keep our eyes peeled just in case something big goes down. There is no better venue to promote the show, after all, and it would be a way to take attention from a game that, shockingly, doesn’t really have all that much attention going into it. Does this feel like the quietest Super Bowl in recent memory than anyone else? There’s almost no buzz about it at all other than a couple of markets and it seems like even the NBA got more sports highlights than it over the past several days.
We’ll be back tomorrow to cover all of the commercials, really no matter what happens with the game itself. This is an annual tradition for CarterMatt and it is certainly one that we plan on keeping up to some degree. We’ll also have coverage of the Anthem, Halftime, and a whole lot more.
