‘The Vampire Diaries’: Ian Somerhalder talks ’50 Shades of Grey’ fascination

Just one day after we posted a story all about whether or not Ian Somerhalder may be one of the people that author E.L. James is interested in casting as Christian Grey for the upcoming feature-film adaptation of “50 Shades of Grey,” we now have some more comments from the man himself about the gossip. So is Ian for sure interested in the role? When it came to that, the actor was coy at the Environmental Media Awards in California Saturday night; however, he was still open to talking about the work as a whole.

In a new interview with E! News, Ian chose to focus primarily on what the casting process for the film must like in comparison to whether or not he was actually in discussions for the role:

“I think that’s going to be a very interesting story to tell…It seems like whoever plays that role, it will be very interesting rehearsal time…the audition process is gonna be interesting.”

This philosophy does differ strongly from when Ian was actually campaigning actively for the role, as he said a number of months ago that he wanted to temper talk of it merely because it was just something he was interested in at the time … not because his casting was a sure thing. If producers really are interested in him for the part of Crhstian, they are certainly not going to say it until the role is officially announced, and that will not happen until they officially get a director on board. Even then, there is still a major complication for Ian when it comes to his hectic schedule in between “The Vampire Diaries” and his foundation.

What do you think about Ian’s answer to this question, and do you really want to see him play the role?
