In the video below, you can see everyone’s favorite one-eyed costume creature perform the classic Lenny Kravitz version of “American Woman” — while may be, by the way, one of the most misinterpreted songs of the past several years. It’s another rock-based song for the Monster, who to date has also down a Queen classic and then also Gavin DeGraw. (The Bee is also performing Miley Cyrus’ hit “Wrecking Ball.”)

Is it clear that the Monster has an awesome voice? Absolutely, but we do think he’s also aided by his costume in some ways that other contestants this season are not. It’s incredibly difficult, for example, to really draw any conclusions about his appearance since you cannot really see his body type in the costume. It’s also a super-adorable costume so it makes him almost immediately likable. We do think that there are some savvy folks online who have deciphered most of the clues, but we’re not sure the average show-only viewer has all that much of an idea who the character is right now.

For those of you who are internet super-sleuths…

Odds are, you’ve seen a video already of the Monster singing “Stay With Me” by Sam Smith — that’s a good indicator that the Monster likely lasts through this upcoming episode unless the show shocks everyone and gives us more than just a single performance. (We actually do think the “Stay With Me” performance is the most exciting one we’ve had all season — if the cuts in the trailer are correct, it may actually genuinely move some of the judges.)

Because of the footage that was out there in those trailers, it was easy to surmise that the Lion would make it to at least this point in the competition — after all, this is when she finally delivered her much-hyped performance of “California Dreamin'” that we’d seen from the very beginning of the season.

Joining the Monster on Wednesday night are the Bee, the Peacock, and the Raven. On paper, it doesn’t feel as though the Raven’s got a good chance of advancing against those three.
