Ratings: MacGyver solid with George Eads’ exit; The Blacklist falls

Last night’s new episode, seemingly the last one for George Eads as a primary cast member, ended up posting a 0.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic — even with Hawaii Five-0 and Blue Bloods. One of the things that have been lost as of late ratings-wise is just how stable this show has become as a part of CBS’ Friday-night lineup. Its performance is pretty much even with the other two shows, and that’s with it airing opposite the #1 show on Fridays in Last Man Standing (which won last night yet again with a 1.1 rating).
We’ll talk a little bit more about the ratings future for MacGyver soon, but we don’t think that there is anywhere near as much to worry about as it may seem on the surface.
Bad news for The Blacklist and Blindspot
We knew that there would probably be a week where the ratings for the two shows started to fall, and we’ve apparently hit that point a little bit earlier than we ever would have assumed. Last night’s installments each drew a 0.5 rating, which does dim their renewal hopes slightly … but also not completely. You have to remember that we’re also still months away from when NBC is going to make a decision on either show. They’ve got time to properly figure all of this out and we’re certainly sure that they will.
The most important thing for these two shows is that they don’t drift down further than this. If that happens, then we’re going to really start to be at a point in which we could see some sort of further danger. We think that, for now, there’s still a little bit of room for recovery and this may have just been an off week in between it being Super Bowl Weekend and there being a lot people are dealing with weather-wise (though typically, cold weather equals better TV ratings)
