Grantchester season 4 episode 5 preview: Meeting Will’s father

Grantchester

Let’s start this Grantchester season 4 episode 5 preview article with this sad reminder: There are only two more episodes this season. Seriously. That’s a crazy thing to think about, but it’s actually where we are at the moment. We’ve already seen these characters go through quite a bit, and we’ve also witnessed now the departure of James Norton from the series. Will is starting to settle into a groove at Grantchester, which of course means that the timing is right to throw something new and crazy up against the wall. That’s really what a show like this does better than anything — right when you start to think things are stable, the creative team throws another wrench into the mix.

This time around, said wrench is coming in the form of Will’s father. He will find himself back home in this episode and as a result of that, Georgie is going to join him. This is an episode that should prove that Grantchester is interested in continuing for a long time moving forward; otherwise, they would not spend the time having a proper introduction episode like this. They want you to know more about Will because clearly, the plan is to continue to have him be a part of the show for a rather long time moving forward.

For a few more pieces of insight on what’s ahead, we’d suggest that you check out the official Grantchester season 4 episode 5 preview right away:

Will is settling into the new routines of his life in Grantchester: sermons and services in the church, working the punching bag at the gym and suffering sniping comments from Leonard in the vicarage … But then an unexpected phone call summons Will back home, and he asks Geordie for his help: Will’s father has got himself into some trouble. It’s a chance for Geordie to discover where Will really comes from, and it’s not what he expected, taking him into a very unfamiliar – and unfriendly – world.

Will hasn’t been home in a while, running from a past he wants to forget. But you can’t outrun it forever, and when one vicious beating leads to a grisly murder at a sprawling ancestral home, scandal threatens to engulf the Davenport Family, and life will never be the same for Will again.

While this may be the case for Will, don’t expect him to keep himself at home for a long period of time. This is a chance for him to re-experience home, but then also remind himself of what he values outside of it. This is an essential episode, though — it will ground the character and make him even more likable moving forward.
