How Empire season 5 cast, crew is handling Jussie Smollett attack
So what are the show and its producers behind the scenes doing behind the scenes in order to cope with this horrible situation? Well, much of it is about just trying to ensure justice is served, and also putting one foot after the next. According to Entertainment Tonight, the show will have added security in the wake of the attack and, to go along with that, there are counselors on set in order to help people who are struggling:
“The counselors will be there for as long as the cast and crew needs … Everyone processes trauma differently and the network understands that. The pace of filming will be based on how everyone feels, and the network and people involved want to do whatever they can to make the cast and crew feel safe and supported.”
Smollett could return to the show as early as next week to continue playing the part of Jamal Lyon, but we know that this story is far from over. Like Jamal on the show has overcome many obstacles, we’re sure that Smollett is going to overcome this and be a voice for the voiceless. Before that, though, he also needs a little bit of time so that he can properly heal and figure out how, when, and if he wants to speak up. He’s the one who has endured a horrific situation and because of that, he has a right in order to properly dictate what he wants to do and how he wants to speak up.
In addition to dealing with this horrific situation, Empire and many other Chicago-filmed shows are also in the midst of dealing with record-low temperatures due to the polar vortex. The show will go on and beyond just that, it will do so as a family. That atmosphere is one of the reasons why this show has done as well as it has: These people legitimately care about each other.
