According to a report from Deadline, the productions of both Chicago Fire and Chicago Med are reasonably unchanged by the winter weather outside in the Windy City — because both series are filming this week indoors, there’s nothing for them to be concerned about. (Of course, our heart goes out to anyone who had to travel to and from the set.)
As for the state of things when it comes to Chicago PD, let’s just say that this is a slightly different story at the moment. The NBC crime show is done until at least Friday, as the conditions pretty much render some of its exterior filming impossible. They’re clearly going to have to make up for some lost time, given the fact that there’s going to be a lot of footage to shoot and ultimately a relatively-short amount of time in order to do it. We know that the production is more than capable of catching up, but it’ll be a challenge and it’s hard not knowing if conditions are going to be that much better on Friday.
Ultimately, this is one of the perils that come with filming somewhere like Chicago — while you are able to create a little bit more of an authentic environment, you are forced to deal with a lot of difficult weather conditions along the way. Typically, the rough Chicago winters are not so rough that nobody is able to work. This is almost a one-in-a-million scenario where it is impacting people in the city as much as it is here.
For now, don’t anticipate that the vortex is going to slow anything down when it comes to production. There weren’t any plans for NBC to air One Chicago shows tonight, and all three series are going to be back on in the air in one week’s time.
