Shadowhunters season 3 trailer release is ‘imminent,’ per exec

In a new post on Twitter in response to questions on the trailer (which you can check out below), executive producer Todd Slavkin confirmed that its release is “imminent,” per some of the assurances that he has received by the powers that be. Freeform has the power to release it whenever they see fit, and we do think that it behooves them to get it out there sooner rather than later.
We do think that there is a certain amount of care that needs to go into how they do a trailer release in order to get the biggest return on it. They need to do it at a time in which it doesn’t get swallowed up by other things in the news cycle, like releasing it on Super Bowl Weekend is a truly bad idea. Meanwhile, it’s also not a great move to release it three months before the show returns (too early) or two weeks before it airs (too late).
While trailers are designed of course to get diehard fans eager and excited about what’s coming up, the other objective is to make sure that you either get casual fans hooked once more or even find some new fans who have never watched before. You want to use this as an opportunity to both strengthen your current audience and build up a new one — that’s why there should be some great fan-service moments coupled with enough plot explanation for new viewers to understand what’s going on if they want to dive in. We want to see the series get some solid ratings upon its return — regardless of whatever the future holds, this show deserves a chance to go out with a bang if this does turn out to be the end. It certainly seems to be that way for Freeform, who have been promoting the remaining twelve episodes as the end of the series.
Shadowhunters season 3 will return on Freeform on Monday, February 25, and we actually hope that we get some more sneak peeks to go along with an official trailer. There’s a lot to still be excited about when it comes to the remainder of the story as a whole.
