NCIS: Los Angeles season 10 episode 14 review: A cliffhanger crisis

NCIS: Los Angeles

After watching NCIS: Los Angeles season 10 episode 14 tonight on CBS, it’s fair if your heart is beating a little bit faster. This may be the most dangerous episode since the finale and to make matters all the more intense, the worst may still be to come.

What we saw tonight throughout the first part of “Smokescreen” was a series of events leading up to a bombing, one in which an exhausted team was left to think about possible investigative mistakes and also a mission that ultimately went somewhat off the rails. It’s not often you see the bad guys win, even if it was for a short period of time. Yet, that is what happened tonight as we had to watch the explosions go down at the theater, one that led to a loss of life.

To make matters worse, on the other side of the explosion, there was another reminder that the worst may still be to come. Sam and Callen are trapped inside the theater, Deeks and Kensi are on the outside, and there is no way that they can get in there in order to help. There may be explosives set up throughout the entrance at the theater and, to make matters worse, there was that video warning at the end of the episode that there could be another attack coming.

Deeks and Kensi contemplate the future

It may have been a brief moment, but earlier on in the episode the two had a discussion in bed that reminded us of what we saw at the end of last season — Deeks is still thinking about a future that does not involve being in NCIS, but he is willing to stick around for at least the near future. As for how much longer the two stick around beyond that, it’s something to certainly ponder over for the time being.

CarterMatt Verdict

By far, this was one of the most-intense episodes of the season, and it is one where almost all of the characters have to brace themselves for something even more horrifying on the other side. Can we also say that we’ve got one of the most significant adversaries we’ve seen on the show in some time in this terrorist group? They’ve been able to outplay and outsmart the entire team on a couple of occasions already, so you should be concerned about the future.
