Ratings: Celebrity Big Brother tops night; Dynasty, Fresh Off the Boat even

Celebrity Big Brother season 2

There wasn’t exactly a ton of programming on Friday night, with much of CBS and also NBC being in repeats. Yet, we do still think that there are a few different things worth talking about.

Let’s start off here with Celebrity Big Brotherwhich posted in total a 1.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic — enough to win the night. The show’s lost a little ratings steam throughout the week, but it still is stronger than most of the other competition out there. We do wonder about this show’s future — while it does perform reasonably well, we would imagine that it’s more expensive than the flagship show since you’re having to pay the celebrities to be a part of it. To go along with that, you’ve also got to be able to still get good celebrities in the future — while the people on this season aren’t necessarily huge names, they’re working well together.

Meanwhile, there’s a few interesting odds and ends on a couple of bubble shows.

Dynasty – We certainly recognize that it’s easy to look at the CW show as sort of a ratings punching bag, given that it’s not necessarily performing fantastically in any of the ratings. Yet, it posted a 0.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic last night and the numbers are virtually even with the show’s season 1 average. If it was able to earn somewhat of a surprise renewal last year, why would we think that this year will be different? It’s got more of a chance than people would think.

Fresh Off the Boat – It was helped last night by the last of Last Man Standing on the air, as it did post one of its better ratings of the season in a 0.7 rating (even with the week before). We think it’s in a tricky spot moving forward — we could see ABC wanting to keep it just because of the fact that it is such a unique cast and it brings a great deal of representation at a time when the world needs it. Yet, ABC has a new programming head and that often means some big shifts at the end of the season. Don’t give up hope if you love the show, but right now its future certainly hangs in the balance.
