Riverdale season 3 spoilers: Molly Ringwald returning as Archie’s mom
Speaking in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Ringwald confirmed that she is going to be coming back on the show at some point moving forward. With that being said, she also made it clear that she hasn’t read the scripts — or at least not at the time she said this. We’d take this to mean that she won’t be back in the immediate future, but that you can probably expect to see her resurface at some point in the reasonably near future.
As for the appeal of bringing Ringwald back onto the show, we’re not altogether clear that we really need to spell that out. We’re talking here about someone who has been outstanding the vast majority of the time that she’s been around, and she also has that nostalgia factor along with her for everyone who remembers everything that she contributed to the film industry for many years. The fact that the show has got as many nostalgic names on it is a testament to some smart thinking on the part of the writers, and there’s a lot of good stuff that we can look forward to and anticipate even still, beyond what we know already. Think in terms of there being a spin-off show that is in development separate from Chilling Adventures of Sabrina — we’re very curious to learn just how much that could be implemented into some of the story that we end up seeing the rest of the way this year.
Of course, for archie there is really just one thing that we want to see more than anything else this season: Peace. Think about everything that the guy has been through so far, in between going to prison for a while and then being on the run. He is not having the life of an ordinary teenager and at this point, he probably just needs a moment or two in order to catch his breath and gather some of his bearings. The more that this happens, the better off the show is going to be as a whole as we start to move into the final batch of episodes that are coming up a little bit later this season.
